The Ghosts of Rodin are printed on Japanese Kozo paper and mounted on anodized aluminum with 3 inch borders. They are large, 40”x35”, and designed as a triptych but also available separately.

The Bricolage series reflect my fascination with the natural world and collections. Sort of a Cabinet of Curiosities and includes other interesting gatherings in boxes.

This piece does not have 3” borders as the triptych is designed to hang together with about an inch gap. Panels are available separately.
My love for the technique of collage predates my interest in photography and I’ve always wanted to merge the two in some way. I remember discovering the work of William Dole and being mesmerized by the placement, the mystery, the beauty of his assembling sometimes disparate images and words into a beautiful compostion.
I choose to work with photographic images, even when I include textures and words, I produce them first digitally and then blend and layer them seamlessly using the computer.

I refer to these works as Frescoes because in the image transfer process the acrylic pigment (ink) goes into the somewhat porous plaster. I construct the image on the computer using various techniques, then print the image on an inkjet printer on transfer film and place it on a prepared plaster slab. After the image is transferred the emulsion is washed off leaving the ink embedded in the plaster. Often I will enhance or work on the image. I leave a 3 inch border around the image so that the beauty of the plaster is evident. At times I work into the white border, other times I leave it pure and white. The works on plaster are all unique as the process is spontaneous and the results are always one-of-a-kind.

Linen has such a beautiful, subtle textured surface with a warmth that is palpable and is perfect for much of my work. I mount each piece on aluminum with 3 inch linen borders all around (no aluminum is showing). They are finished with an elegant cleat hanging system,

I’ve been photographing paintings for many years both in my commercial work and as Photographer for the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Often I find beautiful and fascinating versos or backs of paintings, sometimes more interesting than the paintings themselves as they often include provenance information, stickers, calligraphy as well as the patina of age. All of the Versos are printed on Belgian Linen and mounted on aluminum with 3 inch linen borders.

Like the Versos I often found the art packed in a shipping crate, had a life of it’s own.

Working in the desert, I was trying to capture the shadows of various, sometimes majestic, desert plants. Using a soft focus lens, the Backdrop Series was photographed with an 8”x10” view camera and contact printed on handmade platinum paper. Currently they are pigment prints on Japanese Kozo paper

Platinum is the most beautiful, most archival and delivers the longest tonal range of any photographic printing process, with the possible exception of inkjet printing. I started making platinum prints many years ago piecing together technical information from a variety of sources. It is a contact printing process which means the negative is the same size as the print. Consequently I worked with very large format cameras including an 8 x 20 inch which is what the Mono Lake, Tufa Domes is printed from. I had to make the platinum solution and hand coat it on a variety of papers which were suitable for the process. At one point I even made my own platinum printing paper from abaca and sized it accordingly. It’s entirely a hand process. Platinum is less graphic than traditional silver paper prints, more subtle as it becomes part of the paper it’s printed on.
